Frequently Asked Questions
How are your classes structured?
Generally, we will start with a few minutes of getting to know each other and talking about our plan for the day. We’ll go over what we’re going to cook and the order in which we will work. Then, we will get started! Once we finish cooking all of the menu items, we will have a tasting session and enjoy what we baked. While tasting, we will go over any questions and talk about everything we learned. In most cases, this structure can be modified based on your preferences. Just ask me if you have something different in mind.
I have a class in mind but I don’t see it listed. Do you offer custom classes?
Sure! I can tailor menus based on your interests and what you want to learn. Just email me and we can discuss.
Most of your classes listed are baking. Do you offer cooking classes too?
Sure, I just prefer baking! I have a degree in culinary arts and have worked on the savory side of things too. I focus on teaching baking but I can design a class based on cooking techniques too.
Are your classes hands-on or demonstration based?
Mostly hands-on. We will work together and everyone will get to work on the dishes. However, if you want a demonstration based class, we can arrange that too.
Where are classes held?
Classes will be held in your home kitchen. Later this year I will also offer the option of booking a class at The Findlay Kitchen at Findlay Market. It’s a shared kitchen space where I will be a member and have the ability to book the classroom to hold classes.
How long are classes?
Most classes run about 3 hours. However, this is based on the menu and can vary based on the class. We can also modify classes based on what you’re interested in learning.
How much do your classes cost?
Classes run $75 per hour for 1-3 people. If you have 4-5 people, the classes run $100 per hour. For more than 5 people, the rates are determined based on the specifics of the class and I will provide you a custom proposal.
What is included in the costs?
- Initial Organization Call – we will discuss the menu, class agenda, and go over details
- Grocery Shopping
- Prep work – I will come with all of the ingredients and do any necessary prep work
- Recipes – I will provide each student with a packet of recipes and helpful information
- Equipment and Ingredients recommendations
- Clean Up
- Email and phone correspondencebefore and after class
What ingredients do I need to provide?
I will do the grocery shopping and bring all of the ingredients with em. We may use some of your pantry items such as salt, spices, or oil. We can discuss this in advance and I will provide everything you do not have on hand.
How much will food costs be?
It depends on the menu. When we discuss food costs in our initial call and if you have a budget, you can let me know. I’ll give you an estimate of food costs and then give you the receipt for reimbursement. You can reimburse me by writing a check or paying via paypal or venmo.
What equipment do I need to have a cooking class at my home?
It depends on the menu. We will discuss this in our initial consultation and in most cases, I can bring anything you don’t have.
How frequently do you add new classes?
All the time! You can sign up for my mailing list to receive an update when a new class is added. If you don’t see the class you are looking for, just email me.
I would like to sign up with a group of friends? Can you accommodate more than 4 people?
Most likely. Some menus work better than others for large groups. I’m happy to discuss via phone or email.
Do you offer gift certificates?
Yes! Email me to purchase a gift certificate.
What is your cancellation policy?
Classes are non-refundable but can be rescheduled with 7 days notice. A 50% deposit is due upon booking your event. Deposits are non-refundable. You can reschedule free of charge with at least 7 days notice prior to your event. Rescheduling within the week of your event will incur a $50 fee. No rescheduling may be done within 72 hours of your event.
Can I return a gift certificate and get a refund?
Gift certificates are non-refundable.
Do you accommodate food allergies or a special diet?
Yes, as long as I know when you book the class. I am always happy to work around allergies and diets, but sometimes it takes special ingredients and recipes. If I do not know in advance, I may not be prepared and able to accommodate your requests.
Can children come to your cooking classes?
I am happy to work with children ages 13 and up. If the parent will be present for the class, then I welcome children ages 6+. Of course, exceptions are sometimes made so feel free to email me and we can talk about options.
